Do not Lose pictures
If you are not careful with your digital work flow, you can easily end up losing images. This is not an option for a professional photographer. The good news is with engagement sessions is that if you (somehow) to lose a number of images passed from an engagement session - you can (probably) redo the session! Weddings, on the other hand, are virtually impossible to repeat.
If you should happen to encounter data loss when taking picturesthe couple, or downloading of images - do not panic! If it occurs in the camera, remove the card and continue with another map. I had this happen several times over the years and have lost only one corrupted image and how many images were in the buffer at the time I had to switch to a new memory card.
The more common corruption occurred when I am downloading the pictures on my computer. There are a number of software tools that you can perform on the memory card to the restorationImages. I have not lost space in this article are able to reinforce the recovery / damaged / deleted images write, but I would recommend you buy "Photo Rescue" version 3 (a Google search is to find the software). I held off on purchasing the software until I had a need, and if I have a need (an entire memory card from a family photo session, which had grown during the download process, damaged), the 29 "price worth it ! Since purchasing the software I have to rest a few timesdeleted or damaged files from a memory card.
Save the images
The first thing I do when I'm back from a photo session is to download all the images on my computer.
I then some fundamental review to ensure there are no pictures are missing in the session. I will check the file number of the first image and last image from the session - Subtraction of the two, find out how many pictures were taken. Then I will check the actual files on my computer tosure it fits.
Such a double-check would catch all the pictures are missing in the middle of the session, but you will notice, it would not recognize images that were missing from the beginning or end of a meeting.
Therefore, I will also sort the pictures by "Date" or reference number and scroll through the time stamp that all the time that I shoot images in real file out.
After the "inspection" process is complete I will burn all the images on DVD. Actually, I hadMake two copies of the files on DVD's. A DVD is stored on site and the other DVD is stored at a remote site. I also have an Excel file that functions as a database: I enter basic information about the photo session in Excel and a number provided to find the DVD is so (easily) later.
Remove Secondary Photos
After obtaining the raw image are secured I will start my post-production. The first step involves the removal of badPhotos. I call them rejects. Now I simply call it "secondaries".
I create a folder called "secondaries" and I move any photos that have problems in that folder. All images, embarrassing the pair (catching an odd look or a blink, etc.) or mistakes I made (motion blur, out-of-focus, blown highlights, poor composition, etc.) at the end of "Secondary" folder.
I want to keep as many photos as possible for the couple, so I try not to remove too manyShots. Although, I remember an engagement session where I have more than 1,300 photos. For this session, I very freely move images "secondary" folder!
When the photo session held a smaller selection of images or when the "pose" in question had only a few shots, I'll try to leave, so many from that session, or "pose" as possible.
The numbering of the decision
Let's say your photo session began with 250 images. 50 of them moved to the "secondary" folder. You areleft with 200 photos. There are gaps in your photographic file numbers.
Some couples will not notice or care about the gaps. Your photo numbers are not likely to be 001-250 (missing 50). They are rather loose, something like 6918 - 7168 - and the missing numbers are not very obvious. But it would still lead to an ambitious couple to do the math and figure out that 50 pictures are missing possible - or to notice as they click through the images that the numbersoccasionally "skip".
You must decide whether it is worth the time, your "select" Images must be renumbered. I use the freeware RNAME It Version 3.1 (a Google search is to find the software), to number my new pictures, but most image editing software with a new numbering of the images.
I usually do not re-number the pictures. I do not think I ever had a few ask me for missing images. If they do, I would explain what types of images that I remove, and if they reallyinterested in seeing them I would probably send them over. I've found that if you supply a large quantity of first-class photos, couples do not seem to have the 5% -10% worries that are not included.
There are a lot more to my after-photo-session work-flow, but I need to cover that in another article!
